BCA Study Abroad Launches Program
in The Gambia, Africa
Elizabethtown, PA. February 23, 2010 – Students have a new option to study abroad in Africa through BCA’s (Brethren Colleges Abroad) program in Brikama, The Gambia, a stable, developing country located on the coast in West Africa with a tropical climate.
Partnering with The University of The Gambia (UTG), BCA Brikama is a field-placement and academic program with two tracks of study-- Engineering Design and Social Sciences. Both tracks place students within Gambian society working side-by-side with UTG faculty and students and local villages to solve critical issues in education, energy and health care.
Students in both tracks are required to take a four credit field-based course, three-credit culture course to better understand The Gambia, a one-credit BCA Orientation course and may choose up to three electives from the UTG roster of courses.
The University of The Gambia offers seven units of study including agricultural sciences, science and technology and a School of Medicine and Allied Health and enrolls about 4,000 mostly Gambian students.
The program is open and will run its first cohort of students January- April 2011.
