Trips & Activities
One of the benefits of studying abroad with BCA is the excursions offered to the students throughout the semester. These short trips are included in the program fee.
Each semester includes an excursion that allows students to explore the roots of the conflict that has plagued Ireland for centuries, as well as the Peace Process now underway in Northern Ireland. In addition, students will visit the Ulster-American Folk Park, which emphasizes the historic connection between Ulster and various parts of the United States, the Giant’s Causeway, and other scenic sites in Ulster and the republic.
Excursions
The most compelling excursion with a peace orientation is to Belfast where you will visit the Republican Falls Road and the Loyalist Shankill road areas. Here you will learn about the political significance of the murals from both sides of the conflict, and then visit the so-called “peace walls,” which divide the Protestant and Catholic communities and mitigate against petrol bomb and other forms of attack.
On a concluding visit to Stormont Castle, which houses the Northern Ireland Assembly, you will hear presentations from the various political parties on both sides of the Northern Ireland divide.
